Soccer game leads to political violence in Tehran

Hundreds of protesters clashed with Islamic regime's
security forces at the issue of a soccer game played, on
Saturday evening, at the Tehran's "Azadi Stadium" (formerly
known as Aryamehr and re-named by the Islamic regime as
'Freedom').

Anti-regime slogans were followed by heavy damages made to
tens of collective buses and several security patrol cars
in retaliation to the brutal attacks made by the
militiamen. Barricades were set on Tehran-Karaj highway and
neighboring roads and tires were set ablaze in order to
slow the security forces movement.

Tens of protesters and security agents were injured during
the clashes.

The game played, between the Persepolis and Esteghlal
(former Taj) teams, was already re-scheduled to Saturday
due to security concerns. The Islamic regime had preferred
to schedule the game on a week day instead of Friday.
Official threats were made against 'those who would create
unrest' and Commander Tala-i and his staff were present at
the stadium in order to supervise a force strong of 5,000
members.

Soccer protests are a well known phenomenon in Iran. Many
Iranians have started to use, since 2000, the games as an
occasion to protest and defy the regime. Tens have been
killed in cities, such as, Tehran and Esfahan.

Many believe that a ban of the Iranian National Soccer Team
from the upcoming 2006 World cup, would in reality help
the Clerical regime as Iranians would be deprived of
several occasions for protesting. Such ban can take place
if the UN sanctions, fully, Iran due to the Islamic
regime's nuclear activities.

Partita di calcio in Iran finisce in manifestazioni anti-regime

Centinaia di manifestanti di sono scontrati con la polizia islamica, ieri ( sabato ) , al termine di una partita di calcio disputata allo stadio "Azadi" di Teheran ( lo stadio si chiamava Aryamehr, ma il nome gli è stato cambiato dal regime islamico).

Sono stati urlati numerosi slogan contro il regime,alcuni autobus e macchine dela polizia sono state date alle fiamme, in risposta agli attacchi brutali dei miliziani islamisti.

Sono state erette barricate lungo l'autostrada Teheran-Karaj e varie strade vicine sono state prese di mira dai manifestanti che hanno così cercato di impedire il movimento agli agenti di sicurezza del regime.

Decine di manifestanti e forze di polizia sono rimasti feriti durante gli scontri.

La partita tra Persepoli e Esteghlal ( ex Taj) era già stata rinviata a sabato ( ieri ) , per motivi di sicurezza. Il regime aveva preferito fissare la partita per un giorno feriale, invece di venerdì.

Coloro che avessero provato a "creare disordini" sono stati minacciati ed il comandante stesso delle forze armate del regime islamico, Tala-i , era presente allo stadio con 5 mila agenti.

Dal 2000, gli iraniani approfittano di occasioni come le partite di calcio, per scendere in strada e protestare contro il regime. Ci sono stati, in questi anni, decine di morti in città come Teheran e Esfahan.

Molti credono che se la nazionale iraniana verrà squalificata dalla partecipazione ai mondiali del 2006, ciò favorirebbe il regime, perchè non si troverebbe di fronte a manifestazioni popolari anti-regime. Se l'Onu dovesse imporre sanzioni totali verso il regime, per le sue attività nucleari, ciò comporterebbe anche la squalifica della nazionale iraniana dalla partecipazione ai mondiali
